Editorial independence
Our recommendations are based on research and verified product data — not commission rates. We do not promote a product because it pays more. If two products compete at similar quality, we recommend the better one for the reader, regardless of what either pays in affiliate commission.
Research, fact-checking, and publication decisions are made independently from our commercial relationships. No advertiser or retailer can pay for placement or influence a rating.
Product selection criteria
Products qualify for our comparisons based on:
- Availability: currently sold on Amazon in your country
- Verifiable specifications: we can confirm key specs from manufacturer sources
- Relevance: the product meets a genuine buyer need in its category
- Data sufficiency: enough verified information exists to compare it fairly
We prefer manufacturer-published specifications (manuals, datasheets, official product pages) over retailer listings. If we cannot verify a product's specs, we either note the gap or exclude it.
How products are scored
Our ranking architecture separates measurement from judgment:
- A deterministic utility score is computed per product for sorting and candidate selection. It is an internal ordering tool, not a published quality rating.
- Criterion-level results are published — you can see how products compare on each sourced specification rather than trusting a single blended number.
- Data completeness and research confidence are reported separately from performance, so a sparsely researched product is never presented with implied precision.
- Public recommendations use qualitative verdicts (recommended, good value, specialist pick) with the underlying facts shown next to them.
We deliberately avoid false precision. A product is not "8.7% better" than another based on an invented formula. The goal is to help you choose, not to simulate objectivity with a number.
Unknown values never count against a product as a zero. When a manufacturer does not publish a value, that criterion is marked unknown and excluded from the comparison for every product in the set; data completeness tells you how much evidence exists.
Content updates
Articles are revised when product facts change — not rewritten weekly to signal freshness. If a manufacturer updates a specification, discontinues a model, or a better alternative enters the market, we update the affected article. We do not rotate word choices or restructure articles to game search rankings.
Every article displays a publication date and a last-updated date. If an article hasn't been updated, the facts in it should still be current.
Product replacement policy
When a recommended product is discontinued or superseded, we apply the same selection standard to its replacement: verify specifications from primary sources, compare it against alternatives on the same criteria, and update the article with the reasoning. We do not automatically swap in a newer model without evaluating it.
How content is produced
CompareSmartDevice content is generated and maintained by automated research systems operating under this policy. Claims pass independent machine verification gates — source-provenance, conflict detection, data-quality, and publication checks — before anything is released. We do not claim human review where none occurred.
Because no human editor reads each article before publication, we hold the automation to auditable standards instead: every material claim carries its source and checked date, unresolved conflicts are surfaced rather than smoothed over, and our corrections log records what changed and why. Reported errors are investigated and corrected regardless of volume.
We are not affiliated with any device manufacturer or retailer. Our only commercial relationship is the Amazon Associates affiliate program, which does not influence editorial output. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
Testing and physical verification
We do not physically test products. Our comparisons are based on verified specifications, manufacturer documentation, and structured research — never hands-on testing, and we make no hands-on claims anywhere on the site. If that ever changes, the affected articles will say so explicitly.
Date stamps
All articles carry a publication date and a last-updated date. If you find an article without a date, it is an error — please let us know.
